History
Founded in 1982 by collectors Mary Harris Francis and Barbara Marshall, the museum began with their shared passion for toys and miniatures. Originally called the Toy and Miniature Museum of Kansas City, it started as a 7,000-square-foot space and has since grown to 33,000 square feet. Significant expansions in 1985 and 2004 helped accommodate its ever-growing collection.
In 2012, the museum underwent a renovation funded by a capital campaign, reopening in 2015 as the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures. It now attracts visitors worldwide, showcasing a collection that includes objects dating back to the 18th century, such as “Georgiana,” an English wooden doll from around 1750.
